From Recovery to Road: Transaid's Kilimanjaro to Coast Challenge

Liam Barber is preparing to take on one of the toughest challenges of his life as he joins Transaid’s Kilimanjaro to Coast 2026. A demanding 454-km cycle across Tanzania, to raise vital funds for safer, more accessible transport across Africa.

Taking place over ten days, the Kilimanjaro to Coast challenge will see riders cycle from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean, experiencing the breathtaking landscapes of Tanzania while supporting the life-changing work of Transaid. The charity works with communities, governments and partners to improve road safety in some of the world’s most underserved regions.For Parksafe Group, a company dedicated to improving road safety through innovative vehicle safety technology, supporting Transaid seemed like a natural fit.But for Liam, Parksafe Group’s Strategic Partnership Director, the challenge carries an even deeper personal meaning. Just under two years ago, Liam underwent major reconstructive knee surgery following an injury, requiring his ACL and PCL to be rebuilt. The rehabilitation process has been long, demanding and, at times, incredibly frustrating. Months were spent rebuilding strength, mobility and confidence.

Reflecting on the upcoming challenge, Liam said:

“The last two years have tested me both physically and mentally. Recovering from major knee reconstruction isn’t something you can rush, and there were times when the finish line felt a long way off. Having this challenge to work towards has given me a goal to aim for throughout my rehabilitation.”

Cycling 454km over five days will undoubtedly be one of the biggest physical challenges I’ve ever faced, but it feels like the perfect way to celebrate the journey from injury back to full strength. More importantly, every mile will help support Transaid’s incredible work improving road safety and healthcare for communities that need it most.”

The challenge has been made possible thanks to the support of a number of organisations that have chosen to back the fundraising effort.
